What counts as "in" the kitchen
You cannot volley a ball from inside the pickleball kitchen — the 7ft non-volley zone in front of the net. You may step into the kitchen, hit a ball that has already bounced, and step out again. You may not, however, volley a ball while standing in the kitchen, while touching the kitchen line, or while your momentum from a volley carries you in.

How scoring actually works

Pickleball uses side-out scoring: only the serving team can score points. A game is the first to 11, won by 2 clear points. The server calls three numbers before serving — their own score, then the opponents' score, then the server number (1 or 2). In doubles, both partners serve before a side-out, except for the very first service of the game where the team starts with 0-0-2.
